Myopia, hyperopia and their synonyms

Hi,

  • myopia" (most common?)
  • nearsightedness" (as common as 'myopia'?)
  • near sight" (not very common?)
  • shortsightedness" (used very rarely if ever?)
  • short sight" (used very rarely if ever?)
  • hyperopia (most common?)
  • farsightedness
  • far sight (rare?)
  • longsightedness (rare?)

These are common phrases:

I'm myopic.
I've got myopia.
I'm nearsighted/farsighted.
Nearsightedness is worse than farsightedness.

I have not heard the others used.

You are saying the word diopter is rare&uncommon, etc....
In case I need to be specific about my myopia, I will HAVE to use some "unit of measurement"? If diopter does not work here, what replacement shall be used then??

" my eye power is (plus) two and a quarter" ( = +2.25 D of farsightness ?)
" her left eye power is minus three point five" ( = -3.5 D of myopia
