My translation of a german text about David Blaine

Hi,

can anyone give me some kind of feedback whether my translation of a text from German to English about David Blaine is cohesive and comprehensible? Thank you!

US Magician has himself frozen alive

With only a layer of fatty cream on the naked upper body the New York magician had himself frozen alive in a block of ice heavy as six hundredweight. David Blaine wants to endure 58 hours encased in his icy prison.

New York – As if it wasn't frosty enough in New York: David Blaine has been standing on the Time Square in middle of Manhattan since Monday. Amidst ice. More exact: In a huge block out of ice. Blaine wants to prove it to the whole world: he wants to stay in his piercing imprisonment for two and a half days, frozen into an icy pillar – and wants to brave temperatures and exposure. The artist is not unknown in the USA: He admittedly is not a David Copperfield, but one of the most famous illusionist on the U.S. market. And similarly to David Copperfield he clearly knows one thing: nearly every good trick will lose its magic without public appeal. The 27 year old had himself buried alive in a plastic-coffin for a week as recently as last year. This time he picked the everlasting ice. But this everlastingness has its limitations: Blaine wants to leave his icy dwelling after exactly 58 hours. And another magic trick by Blaine: the spectacle will be broadcasted live by ABC on American television. “Frozen in time” has been the biggest stunt for the magician so far. For that reason Blaine had 6 tons of ice transported from Alaska to New York where it had already been pieced together into a customized shell prior to its usage for the event. The notching inside the block allows Blaine to have 15 centimetres of free space to all sides. In order to survive, fresh air and hot liquids are being pumped continuously into his “cave”. Furthermore, his vital signs are constantly monitored by his team.

The biggest question mark is his circulatory system, which is what doctors are worried about. There is going to be a serious problem in case his circulatory system slows down. For his finger and toes could die away pretty quickly. This is also why Blaine has to make sure to stay bolt upright in his prison and always a few centimetres away from the ice in the three days of his experiment.

David Blaine himself is not scared – neither of chilblains nor from worse. He wears long underpants, jeans and shoes. He has applied huge amounts of gel to his upper body so won't lose his warm body temperature. Blaine relies on the “Iglu-Effect”. Before he had himself frozen, Blaine had said that his body temperature will sort itself out to a low level which would be just enough for Blaine to endure. However, he did not want to talk about his insurance policy. One year of preparation was needed for the trip into the ice. “ I have always searched for new challenges”, says Blaine. He does not know yet what event will follow after the one with the ice – but most certainly it has to be bigger and attract a few more million people in front of the television as this time. Wednesday evening is to be the big moment for David Blaine. His assistants are going to carve him out of the ice at prime time. However, there are two opponents who could steal the show: namely when there should be a new stage of drama concerning the next US president on next Wednesday. Then ABC will as well disrupt its program with special broadcasts as they did so often in the last few days. David Blaine might leave the ice – and no one will watch.

Your text is coherent and understandable. There are, however, many grammar, syntax, vocabulary and style errors. Nevertheless, I read the entire translation and was sufficently informed to go online and look up Mr.

Thank you for your response John,

it would be nice if you could briefly name some of the worst errors i have made - whenever you find the time to. Because "many grammar, syntax, vocabulary and style errors" sounds too alarming
