Hello everyone, I will be glad if someone could check my essay because I don't see own mistakes.
'Some students prefer classes with open discussions between the professor and students and almost no lectures. Other students prefer classes with lectures and almost no discussions. Which do you prefer?'
The time at university is one of the most important periods in our lives because this time helps us to learn a lot of new things and it prepares us for our future career. Some may think that it is better to have classes with open discussions between the professor and the students and almost no lectures. Others may disagree. They prefer classes with lectures and almost no discussions. In my opinion, classes with discussions are better.
My first point is that you may read lecture material while having leisure outside your institution and ask the professor as many questions as you want later in discussion class. It is evident that it will be more productive than only attending classes with lectures. Doubtlessly, it will help to broaden your mind. For instance, four years ago , during my university time at The State University of Civil Aviation in Russia, there was a class of information technology with no lectures but with a lot of time for open discussions. Our IT teacher told us to read a lot of lecture notes at home about desktop computers, laptops, the Internet and other things, which he sent us via e-mail. I remember how in the evenings I read in my free time a lot about this branch. If any student had a question, he could ask the professor later in class and broaden his horizons of the mind. One day, we were speaking about PC problems and how to find a solution to fix them, moreover, the professor told us about the ten most common troubles and we asked about how to find a bug, then how to repair it. All in all, my classmates are the most famous IT engineers in my area and a couple of them have their own IT-workshops now. As you can see, reading lectures in free time and holding debates with the professor will be really helpful.
And there I want to go to the second point: students will have a great opportunity to develop certain skills in order to become an independent thinker to solve any kind of tasks. Needless to say, such a useful skill will be very helpful for future career. For example, a year ago I worked in a small computer repair workshop called 'Fix the Box' in a center of my hometown Moscow with a guy, who had almost no open discussion classes at his university. One day we received an order from our customer to repair his computer, which didn't start to load an operating system at all. My colleague had no idea what to do, he only knew a theoretical part of this issue and couldn't reduce theory to practice. Due to the fact that at university I had a lot of open discussions in IT with the professor, who demonstrated with an example how to solve troubles, I understood immediately what the problem was. As I supposed, the hard drive had a broken clusters in its structure and it should be fully formatted. After all manipulations the operation system called 'Windows' was successfully installed and the PC was repaired. As a result, open discussions will help to think independently and resolve issues at your job.
In sum, though some may oppose my opinion, it is clear that classes with open discussions and almost no lectures are preferable because a lecture material may be read at student's leisure, which help them to broaden their knowledge by asking the professor a questions later and due to the fact that you will become a better thinker. That is why every university should offer such classes.
