My teacher market this wrong
My twelth grade English teacher market the following sentence wrong.
"If the script for the story Antigone were to be made into a modern-day film, it would likely be rated NC-17 for extreme gore and violence."
And changed the sentence to read:
"If the script for the story Antigone was to be made into a modern-day film, then it would likely be rated NC-17 for extreme gore and violence."
Is her first correction correct? And is adding 'then' really necessary?
"If the script for the story Antigone were to be made into a modern-day film, it would likely be rated NC-17 for extreme gore and violence."
And changed the sentence to read:
"If the script for the story Antigone was to be made into a modern-day film, then it would likely be rated NC-17 for extreme gore and violence."

I disagree with your teacher on the were/was transformation, and on the necessity of "then."
