What does the highlighted sentence want to say?

Context:

It will be interesting to see how long the idea of memes will be going strong. My spell-check automatically inhibits the virus and so, far, the construct has failed to catch on in the art world.

I could be wrong, but the only sense I can make of it is that the author is using "virus" to refer pejoratively to the word "meme" (i.e. suggesting that the word is "infectious" in its faddish use or overuse), but says that his or her spell-checker inhibits the use of the word by not recognising it.

I think you are right. And is the "spell-check" the brain of the writer? Meaning that her thoughts and ideas prohibit her from infection with such concepts (meme)?

I didn't consider that; I was thinking of a literal spell-checker. I think your idea is not impossible, but I'm really not sure of the author's intention.
