Which of the following sentences is correctly punctuated and what do they imply?

1) My sister Ornella has a degree in law.

2) My sister, Ornella, has a degree in law.

By the way, Is it "a law degree" or "a degree in law"?

Both are correct.

In the US, "a law degree" is the most frequently used.

I prefer this punctuation (or lack of it) with one-word nouns in apposition. I don't see that any meaning is lost by omitting the commas.

I do recommend commas with longer phrases in apposition, however:
