Hi there,
I need your help with the following phrases:
(1) my best half
(2) my other half
(3) my significant other
(4) domestic partner
--------------------------------------------
A. Consider the following example:
"My best half/other half/significant other is keen on figure skating whereas I prefer soccer and ice hockey"
I wonder if all the first three versions are just fine here? Which do you think are heard more often in everyday English?
---------------------------------------------
B. The fourth example is something quite different from (1)-(3)?
I know what "domestic partner" means but I guess .... feel it in my bones ... this phrase can sound impolite or even offensive in some contexts? If you could give me a bit of advice as to how to use (4) ... and not to put my foot in my mouth :-)
One final question. Based on what I 've seen in the internet, the term "domestic parter" became common only in the 20th century... There must be older terms synonymous with "domestic parter"??
I need your help with the following phrases: (1) my best half No. We say 'my better half '. (2) my other half (3) my significant other (4) my domestic partner I don't hear anyone say this.
