My sentences

I have 3 sentences below,
Please find any errors in grammar or word use.

1)
I certify that Tom will graduate from our school by July 2009 if he passes the High School Graduation Examination.

2)
I certify that Tom will graduate from our school by July 2009 after taking the High School Graduation Examination.

3)
After failure, he never gives up and continues to pursue his ambition with greater efforts.

With #1 and 2, you say he will graduate "by" July 2009. That sounds like he could graduate in April, May, June, or July. You probably mean "in."

With #2, he will graduate whether he passes the exam or not.

#3 is correct grammatically, but would be better as this: When he experiences failure, he never gives up, but instead pursues his ambition with even great efforts.

My name is Robert, Tom's classmate. Tom has been my classmate for 2 years, long enough for me to know him quite well. During this time, I very pleased with his development as a student and as a person.

The same with monetary amounts or distance.
