Hi, everybody! I am doing a pronunciation exercise here. My goal is to sound like a native speaker.
Colloquial Conversation
Yesterday I brought over a housewarming gift, but Armand started acting really weird, and then he practically kicked me out! I tried to, sort of, peek into his house, but everything was so dark inside that I couldn’t really get a good look. The whole thing really creeped me out.

Death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away.
Colloquial Conversation
It’s so important! I love doing cardio. I love getting my heart rate up. I just go running or jogging for like an hour. I’ve never really felt motivated to actually get in shape like that. I just...I don’t run. I’m really clumsy and I fall over things. I don’t like exercising that much.
Colloquial Conversation
See, I don’t know about that. Because I am broke, and I like going to secondhand stores, too, because lots of times you can find really cool name brand things really cheaply. It’s like your clothes get a second lease on life, and if you donate them to one of those thrift stores, sometimes it helps people less fortunate, too, which is pretty cool.
Colloquial Conversation
You know what, Lily? A new thrift store just opened up down the street from me. I am so sick of secondhand clothing and all of those...y'know...budget, thrifting-savvy people. I mean, let’s just go with name brands and higher-end.
Colloquial Conversation
I was just walking down the street. And there was this woman just letting out the f-bombs. Just letting them fly. She just had the worst potty mouth! You know, now that I’m a parent, I am really trying not to swear around my child. I mean, it is just bad news. I feel like it’s totally not OK. There needs to be more etiquette around swearing.
Colloquial Conversation
Because it looks like it's a complete rip off of Rushmore. I mean, it's the rich kid who goes to private school. He gets kicked out of private school. He goes to public school and becomes the hero of his public school. Right? Just like Rushmore.
Colloquial Conversation
Well, you’ve got to know your stuff about cutlery. You’ve got to be polite. I mean, it’s a big ordeal, but once people come and they see that the fork is in the right place, just to the left of the knife, you feel really good about yourself.
Colloquial Conversation
I find it comforting. I mean, I just don’t think anything is a coincidence. I think everything happens for a reason, and the more you arm yourself with good luck charms, and...that you...you know...don’t walk under a ladder or don’t step on a crack. I really think that if you...you know...just heed certain things, that good things will happen.
News Broadcast
In the year following the attack, India has taken steps to strengthen laws for violence against women. At the same time, reports of sexual wrongdoing have raised the issue of sexual misbehavior in the workplace.
News Broadcast
In the days to come, these cases will also test the new laws that were enacted for dealing with violence against women. However, the time it takes for a case to come to trial is still a big concern.
Colloquial Conversation
You can find a clique everywhere you go, right? When you travel, I think travelers become cliques. Kind of backpacker, sweaty, haven't showered, haven't shaved. Kinda gross but you're all in the same boat.
Colloquial Conversation
Well he even said that, he said, "I don't know why you paid 20 dollars to come here if you're not gonna listen to the show." And he said, "You know, if you guys would just stop thinking about yourselves for one minute, you'd realize that there's something cool going on here."
Top answer
That's great. Be careful with the pitch shift at the end of speech units. If the pitch is dropping, make sure the pitch drops to the same degree when you do it.

You might want to try playing back the speech you are imitating at a low volume and speaking along with the original speech to check if your timing is the same.
Once you start to feel more confident with the exercises then try recording yourself reading the transcript of a recording before you listen to the speaker reading it and see how your pronunciation differs from the original when you haven't heard the original recording as an initial guide.
