My personal statement and I really need some help

Hi, my name is Viet, and this is my personal statement. If you don't mind, could you check the grammar and the punctuality for me, please? Many thanks!

Dear Sir/Madam,

According to Wikipedia: “A dream is a succession of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that usually occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep” and on a physical edge, the dream stops when we wake up, and you become who you are. For me, though I am the one who wakes up with a determination to make this dream a reality, to be a music producer, singer-songwriter or a music manager. Hello, my name is Viet- Tran Ho Viet.

I began singing and performing as a child, as I grew up, I knew it was music production which allowed me to express my creative talent and make music my way. Once I started to record my music I was engulfed in the melody and passion as I felt I belonged to it. My goal is now is to take this passion, creativity and love of music to a professional level.

For all of these reasons, to achieve my dream, at the age of 16, I travelled to the UK to begin my studies in music technology at Wakefield College in the September of 2016. Sometimes, I get homesick but my dream and ambition to achieve my ultimate goal get me through it.

In my course, I am learning different subjects such as sequencing, studio recording, studio sound mixing, music dissertation and sound design. All the subjects are very interesting and also it will help me a lot on my way to achieving my dream to become a music producer. Also, I can learn some techniques such as mixing, using EQ, DJs which I haven’t had a chance to study or practice. Moreover, It will improve my teamwork skill when I work with other people in the class, or problem-solving when I work with my dissertation or paperwork independently.

I also try to make some music in my own time in order to practice the techniques that I learnt and develop more in the production field. Sometimes, it works perfectly, but it has failed a lot of times. I realised that when I start being productive and trying new things, I start learning from my errors and gain more experience from the things that you just experiment. For example, when I tried to create some new sounds through some DAW software such as Massive or ES2 on Logic Pro or Cubase, the sound can be good or it could just sound terrible, but I still try and look for the best not only individual practical things, but I have also attended College gigs and helped to set-up the PA systems, and lighting systems. I found this a valuable experience and really helpful for me in this industry, and inspires me to make my dream come true.

Moreover, in order to get into the industry, I also have my own Sound Cloud account and upload some of my music online so people who want to listen and give me some productive comments. I can improve my song in the future. This experience is very helpful because I can update new styles of music, trends, and also listen to other song and learn new things from them.

I understand that to become a professional music producer, I will need more than what I have at the moment. I want to study more professional, advanced techniques and to understand deeply about the production field. I am completely focused on furthering my education at university and even higher so I can develop myself more in the production field.

I want to apply for this course as it is relevant to the creative side of a BA. I look forward to continuing my studies in composing and sequencing but also learn about music management, touring and journalism. I want to be accepted as a student and be part of the University. I feel confident and passionate about my decisions as studying music motivates me and helps me to gain more experience in the future for me to work in some successful studio or working in an education field and bring my knowledge to other people who want to study the same subjects as me.

My long-term plan is to gain as much new knowledge and experience as possible to go back to Vietnam and help to develop the Vietnamese music industry. I would like to open a professional company which trains young talented people to become great stars and this is my ultimate goal.

In my future, I will try my best to study if I could meet the course entry requirements and have the chance to have an interview with you for more information.

I am looking forward to hearing your positive response soon.

Yours faithfully,

Tran Ho Viet
