If he is named Jason, it means He has the name 'Jason'. It's not the past tense.

There are a few verbs which have the same pattern.

I have a brother named Jason = I have a brother. He has the name 'Jason'.

Paul is holding a bottle labeled 'Poison' = Paul is holding a bottle. The bottle has the label 'Poison'.
