Speech & Pronunciation

My name in english?

My last name is Jurecek. Out of curiosity, I searched it on Google and I found a couple of Jureceks in Texas.
Since I'm german-speaking I believe my pronounciation is different from the english one. However I did not find any Audiofiles or videos or something like that.

My question would be: How would an english speaking person pronounce Jurecek?

Thanks for the reply. It actually suprised me that the US version is the same as the german version (JUR-eh-chek).

I have one more question though. Is the "J" in "JUR" pronounced as the usual "J"(Jay/dzh) or is it pronounced like an "y"?

Regards

Jurecek

Try this site. There is an audio that seems reasonable for American English.

The J in Jurecek is generally pronounced in the US like the j in journey. This is the general Americanized pronunciation. Some people - in sophisticated areas of New York City, for example - might pronounced it in the European way, YUR-eh-chek.
