My Motivation Letter

Hello respected teachers! Would you please check my motivation letter for DAAD Application and suggest some possible improvements.

I am writing to apply for master of law (LL.M) in international economic/commercial law (LL.M), in which I am very interested and have tremendous experience. An (LL.M) degree from one of the most prestigious, superior, and respected German universities is my chance to enrich my knowledge and professionally outgrowth, and thereby contribute to the development of the legal sector of my country and strengthen and protect the values and rights of national and international natural and legal persons.

I am a rule of law activist, transnational business law practitioner, and master in transnational business and practice (LL.M). My native country is Afghanistan, a young independent state with a fresh legal system only 15 years old. Though we have laws from the past but most of the statues and codes have been enacted after 2000 when the international community collapsed Taliban regime. The legal system is developing but it has numerous problems.

I know that Germany has one of the extraordinary economies of the world and a country with an impressive system of international economic law, which has developed mechanisms for protection of natural and legal persons. As a transnational business law practitioner and coach for law students at Kandahar University for the VIS moot court on international commercial arbitration, I have many goals and plans for the future of Afghan business lawyers and the legal system in general. These goals are improvement of youth in law schools through competition and mock trials, involvement of young people in rule of law programs and public awareness, and finding and promotion of young leaders. That is why I strive to take part in your educational establishment together with progressive international youth. My goal is to join in researching and developing of projects together with the best world academics, transnational law practitioners, businessmen, officials, and leaders in international economic/commercial law in order to solve global economic/commercial law problems and challenges of my community.

From the very beginning of my public activity I am engaged in social projects aimed at training young leaders in high schools and law schools through training, mock trails, and competitions. These projects are based on my researched, which allowed me to come to the conclusion that we need international business, economic, and commercial lawyers now more than ever. My projects were highly appreciated by my law school (AUAF), Kandahar University where the projects were implemented, and the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) that supported the project. Studying at a German university will allow me to explore the long term experience of international economic/commercial law, gain knowledge in this field, and promote my leadership skills, which can be used for creating better instruments of protection of individual and promotion of rule of law.

I have already done much for social improvement of my country as volunteer, author of projects, member of NGO, President of the student Government Association ((SGA) at (AUAF), founder of the Law student Association (LSA) at (AUAF); but time changes and new challenges require new ideas, knowledge, skills, and partners. Taking part in the DAAD master program in the international economic/commercial law in one of the German universities is my chance to develop both my personal and professional knowledge and experience by interaction with top students and leaders of other nationalities, discovering new cultures and traditions, and finding new ways dealing with the current global crisis.

I am confident that the knowledge that I receive in international economic law (LL.M) will be able to be applied in the future in order to become a professional. I could help people, law students, and practitioners to develop their own potential, to overcome obstacles, and to achieve their goals. While working in public sector we all strive positive change in the society, I believe all changes we want should start from NGO and ourselves. I plan to develop national programs, draft and lobby economical and commercial laws and policies that attract international investors, corporations, and governments to invest in Afghanistan. Business statues and commercial regulations that best protect nationals and internationals are what will change the fortune of Afghanistan and Afghans. This is only possible when we have more experts in international economic/commercial law who have the ability to draft these statutes and regulations and advise the government to act in a certain way.

In conclusion, I am eager to gain new experiences, improve my skills, and broaden my understanding of the dynamic economic world, and I am persuaded that studying international economic/commercial law (LL.M) in Germany would contribute to my development as a specialist/analyst of international economic/commercial law in the best way possible.

Thank you very much for considering my application.
Best regards,
