My most important person

Hi, my students keep on saying "my most important person" instead of "the most important person for me." I know former one is wrong but i can't explain why.

It is the definition of the possessive pronoun "my."
You can say:
my dog: My best dog was a poodle named Rover.
my friend: My best friend is Mary.
my house: I did not like my largest house.
my car: My fastest car was a yellow Porsche.
my shoes: My most comfortable shoes are made of soft leather.

But not
my person. (people do not own each other)
