my - mine

Hello.
These are the meanings that my dictionary has about my-mine:

my: belonging to me.
mine: something that belongs to me.

I see that they are fairly the same, so I wonder if their differ only in their position inside a sentence or if there's something else.

Hello Latin 'My' is an adjective; 'mine' is a possessive pronoun. Both denote 'something that belongs to me'; but whereas 'my' qualifies a noun, 'mine' stands in place of a noun: 1. That is my book.
