My mates "volunteered" me to do the talking.

My mates volunteered me to do the talking.

Does 'volunteered' mean forced here?

Thank you

Not really. It says that they said you'd do it, without really asking you. " Technically, no one should be able to volunteer you other than youself, but if your friends say you'll do it, they have volunteered you.

Not really.

It says that they said you'd do it, without really asking you. When you volunteer, you say "I'll do that." Technically, no one should be able to volunteer you other than youself, but if your friends say you'll do it, they have volunteered you.

I believe it's also sometimes called "railroading".
By the way, if someone has volunteered you for something, you are under no legal, moral or social obligation to do it.

Except, of course, when your boss volunteers you for a team. He's "offered you up." Not that that happens...
