My life’s been on hold

From today's online edition of The New York Times:

Victoria Toline needed nine months to taper off Zoloft. “I had to drop out of school,” she said. “My life’s been on hold.”

Would you please explain the meaning of the sentence I have underlined and put in bold?

By the way, is it possible to use "bolded" instead of "put in bold"?

Thank you
