My Last Duchess by Robert Browning

Hi there, I am currently studying GCSE English Literature and at present in class, we are focusing on the poem "My Last Duchess" by Robert Browning. I have an assignment to do at the moment and what it is, is we have to make a note of all the imagery used in the poem and give an overall summary of it and I was wondering whether anyone can help?

I guess the use of dramatic monolgue(in which Browning impersonates a character of a duke) is the focus of attention as Browning introduced it as a new technique and paved the way for the poets who followed in his steps by introducing experimental techniques. ) and wealth. Finally, the title itself is ironic.

  • I mean the word "Last" means that there were duchesses before her and there will be after her.

I studied this poem last year and i really loved it.I guess the use of dramatic monolgue(in which Browning impersonates a character of a duke) is the focus of attention as Browning introduced it as a new technique and paved the way for the poets who followed in his steps by introducing experimental techniques.

Another point is that the poem depicts the victorian notion :Wealth and power
