Reality TV and Reality World Golway's "A Nation of Idol-Worshipers" said that reality TV affects badly to the American society today. The popularity of shows such as American Idol or America Got Talent influenced the teenagers' life goals that convincing their careers to become an idol of singer or star rather than pursuing in unpopular subjects of medicine, social work, engineering, or teaching. According to Golway's article, he thought the America children followed the new "Idol-worshipers" that values extreme vanity and trivial distinction. Those kids are no longer remembering their aspiration of being astronauts, rocket scientists, cancer-conquering doctors, firefighters, clergy and religious and even political leaders. Besides, the young spent lots of time blindly to imitate the people on American Idol that was a new pop culture of wasting time, money, and energy. I agree with Golway's ideas that reality TV makes negative influence to young people rather than positive education. Nowadays, the popularity of the TV and internet is astounding. Therefore, the chances of seeing reality shows are frequent and usual. People are not only watching reality shows on TV, but also browsing it over the internet. The audiences who are children and teenagers admired to become a singer or actor in order to satisfy their vanity. Although there are some people may be really good at singing and dancing, the reality shows somehow eliminate children's dreams in other aspects. Idol-worshipers who take patience modeling on idols reduce their enthusiasm of ambition. For example, Tom was interested in chemistry and physics subjects and get A+ all the year in school, his perfect school grade shows the evidence that he got the talent scientist career, and his father also convince him to be a scientist in the future. However, Tom got a different idea on his mind. He noticed his classmate Kenny is so popular in school because he had sung a song in America Idol. Tom wants to become a singer since no one has ever cared what a scientist invented or service for the society. How do you think the reality TV affect a child's dream? Or being a singer could be a waste for the society? The responsibility of family role is very important to children's development. Watching reality TV is an enjoyable activity during leisure, however, children or teenagers might blindly follow the behaviors without the realization to the counterfeit production of reality shows. Somehow, the families do not care the content of America Got Talent as long as the shows entertain theirselves and not harm children. On the other hand, they had never thought those reality shows sometimes could be violent and fictitious. Terry, Golway. "A Nation of Idol-Worshipers" The Bedford Guide For College Writers.
