TOPIC: living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can causes serious social problems, as well as practical problems.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
ESSAY:
Living in a foreign country means that people can not speak their mother tongue and have to communicate in a different language instead. I am of the opinion that this will create not just hindrances in adapting a new culture but also the difficulties people might undergo at work and in daily tasks.
The main reason why I strongly believe the statement is that language is a distinctive facet of one culture which is shown through music literature. Therefore, having in-depth knowledge about a country’s culture people need to master its language is vital for people to avoid misunderstandings in cultural differences which can cause disputes even violent behavior. For example, in Korea and Asia nations as a whole, in front of the elder generation, the young always have to use informal language to speak to them which is very complicated to learn and requires a huge effort of the learner to be insightful.
In addition, day-to-day life may be more arduous and hectic which puts heavier pressure on foreigners. At the workplace, jargon is used widely and even slang, thus, if people do not have a sound grasp about that knowledge they will not perform well and climb up the career ladder at the pace they want. Furthermore, in daily tasks, it may take them a long time to get used to it such as understand a contract to rent accommodation or shopping bills.
In conclusion, I consent with the statements that abroad live is tough as it includes cultural misunderstandings and restrictions at work and daily life.
