My idea met / was met with a lack of enthusiasm...

Hello.

Could you please say which of the sentences below is correct and explain why?
1) I suggested bungee jumping for Saturday but my idea met with a lack of enthusiasm from the rest of the group.
2) I suggested bungee jumping for Saturday but my idea was met with a lack of enthusiasm from the rest of the group.

Of course I understand the difference between passive and active voice, but in this example I am not sure which one should be used. I saw similar content being expressed in both ways.

You can use both of those. The active/passive works either way because meeting is a reciprocal thing (if A meets B then B meets A).
