In the US, we use the word "vacation" when we take personal leave from work for a week or so.
Holiday is also used, but more often associated with a one-day event (Good Friday, Easter, Independence Day...). The plural is used when several holidays happen close together: e.g. the Christmas holidays - Christmas, Boxing day, New Years.

Holiday comes from "Holy Day." A holy day was a religious celebration when people do not work, but go to church.
So "Easter holiday" is natural. The British have extended the meaning to include secular days off: Bank Holidays, school holidays, summer holidays, etc. Americans (in general) don't ext

Thanks for your explanation.
Does that mean if you're a student you'd call it 'summer holidays' instead of 'summer vacation'? (I found the 'summer vacation' and 'Easter vacation' in Merriam learner dictionary. They are supposed to be American usage.)

That's what I call it. Also Easter holiday = Good Friday through Easter Sunday.
