my generation of twenty-somethings

Deat teachers,
Could you please explain the meaning of the phrases in bold below?:

It has been a few years since I’ve received a love letter: perhaps my generation of twenty-somethings believes that these notes are a mode of communication meant only for lovesick teenagersWith my boyfriend of three years now content to rest on his laurels, I’ve resorted to reminiscing about the series of romantic letters that paved the way to my first and only love.

Thank you in advance
