my friend and I or me and my friend?

which one is correct and where should we use them? which one is informal?which one we use in the first of writing?please help me it's really important for me....

In the first example "My friend and I" is the subject of the sentence. In the latter, "me and my friend" is the object.

Yes, that's right. But I have never been able to learn if it's just a matter of courtesy or if it's the only correct placement of "me" in a sentence like that.
