my friend

I need your help.
My friend said that this sentence doesnt make sense: I got a hangover. I've been drinking too much. Its supposed to be: I got a hangover, I drank too much. Because if he's saying I've been drinking too much that means that he's still drinking.

Is that true??
Thank you
