Essay & Composition Writing

My first writing for CPE. Would you have a look at it?

I've just started to prepare for CPE. This is the first writing excercise taken from the preparation book I bought.

The topic is: 'Describe your own favourite hobby or sport, explaining its attractions and drawbacks'.

I would be glad if someone could mark it and give me some feedback especially with regard to:
- the content of the piece in general
- the style and how easy it was for you to read
- information or ideas that seemed particularly interesting or amusing
- information which was missing from the piece
- sentences which were less easy to follow

-----

Whenever somebody asks me what my favourite hobby is, I do not need any time to think about it. Since I was able to speak, my answer has always been the same: singing. I have a clear memory of me singing in any possible occasion: singing for myself in my room, singing for my relatives at Christmas, singing on stages.

It is not easy to describe what you truly feel inside when you immerse yourself in activities you love as much as your own life. As far as I am concerned, singing is a sort of escape from the everyday reality, which sometimes does not make me feel fully fulfilled. When I sing, I can feel an emotional state of freedom and an intimate connection with myself and with who is listening, especially if they are really interested in the complex communicative and technical effort I make. Besides, I cannot deny the narcissistic aspect behind all this. There is nothing I appreciate more than a sincere compliment from someone who had the chance to listen to me. Not to mention the overwhelming emotion of being on a stage to sing for hundreds of people gathered because they knew you would be there singing for them.

Unfortunately there are always downsides when you devote yourself so intensely to something. Often I had to face failures and the consequent moments of discomfort. Sometimes it happens that I push myself so hard to achieve an important result, but then I realise that what I have done is not enough. Another point is that I do not easily find as many chances to express myself as I would like to; living on an island does not help either.

Anyway, I am of the opinion that the drawbacks I have mentioned can be also seen from a positive point of view: they are probably part of the whole thing. Dealing with obstacles and difficulties is the most stimulating way to improve myself. It is an indescribable sensation to look behind me and feel proud of the results I have achieved.
