My fingers soaked him up.

Hello everybody.

I am not sure if I got the figurative meaning of soak up in the following. Would you please help me?

The writer's father is dead.

She says: ' I slipped my hands into my father' s gloves. In the worn pile lining, my father soaked him up.

Does it mean she feels her dad's fingers?

Thanks so much.

I'll bet that you typed that wrong, and it really was "my fingers soaked him up."
