My favorite places I've been to...

Does "Some of my favorite places I've been to include Lyon, Paris, etc" sound okay to you? For some reason "...my favorite places I've been to..." doesn't sound very good to me. What do you think?

Thank you.

  • Gene93 Does "Some of my favorite places I've been to include Lyon, Paris, etc" sound okay to you?
  • No.
  • " doesn't sound very good to me.
  • That's because we don't use possessives ( my ) together with restrictive relative clauses ( (that) I've been to ).
  • my favorite places — OK the places I've been to — OK my favorite places I've been to — NO "favorite" is also a problem.

It's not great. The awkwardness stems from the fact that "favourite places" has been "determined" twice, once by the determiner "my" and then again by the relative clause.

I might say something like (but not necessarily) "Some of my favo(u)rite places to visit are....". I am not much of a traveler, so I won't say anything.
