Could you please give your take about these two sentences?

  1. She kept her flat/apartment lights very dim and my eyes were constantly strained while reading.
  2. She kept her flat/apartment lights very dim and my eyes were constantly stressed while reading.

There is a comma missing. Can you see where? And the passive is clumsy.

Same comma. We use "strain" for eyes.
