My essay on rural depopulation

Thank you ever so much for your step-by-step guidance.

What band score do you think this essay will get now?

The phenomenon of rural depopulation is a serious issue and challenge in several countries around the world. Every year, millions of people from the countryside leave their homes and migrate to urban areas or large cities. This causes the populations of those rural areas to dwindle and in some cases even disappear altogether. There are several, mainly socioeconomic, effects caused by this trend. However, solutions do exist which can help alleviate it.

The unfortunate phenomenon of rural depopulation has certain ramifications. First, villagers are responsible for supplying a large proportion of a nation’s food, either directly or indirectly. They raise livestock for meat and dairy products and produce essential commodities such as wheat, rice, fruit and vegetables. But that is not all. Abandoned farms may also disturb the ecosystem of the countryside and possibly contribute to desertification, especially in hot and dry areas where precipitation is too low to support plant growth. Moreover, as their population shrinks, rural municipalities will be left with smaller budgets and power to maintain their cultural heritage, such as language, customs, and folklore, which have taken hundreds, if not thousands, of years to develop into their current form.

To tackle this problem, governments should create employment opportunities and improve public services in rural communities. Farming should not be the only occupation for young people in rural regions. To this end, governments can invest in rural infrastructure to encourage people to stay there. For example, a website designer in the country should have a stable high-speed internet connection to be able to operate online. Moreover, educational, recreational, and health facilities and services must be also improved and adequate in number so that people living in the countryside would not be forced to leave their homes and relocate to large cities to meet their day-to-day needs.

In conclusion, rural flight can put undue pressure on the economy of a country and prove detrimental to the heritage of rural communities. This trend can be reversed if country people can make a living in their own areas and have adequate public services at their disposal.
