my computer crashed/broke down

Hi,

A question on everyday English:

What do native speakers (US/UK) mostly say when their computers suddenly freeze or stop functioning properly?

- My computer crashed.
- My computer broke down.
-??

Any others?

Thanks!

If it just stops working - you can see what was on the screen but you can't DO anything - it froze.

If it shuts itself down unexpectedly - it crashed. You can refer to a program that crashed (Word, for example, or your Internet browser), even if it didn't crash the computer.

When you get that blue screen, sometimes with white text, but no programs, it is sometimes known humorou

Your pc can also "hang": especially if you're working on a networked pc (e.g. in an office), and the connection is interrupted.

When the entire network crashes, the network "goes down".
