Who are called "mutual friends" ? I came across this word several times while reading a book, but couldn't understand what really a "mutual friend" means ?

Will anyone please clearify me kindly ?

Thank you.

A mutual friend is a friend that we have in common. I may not know you, but you may know my friend Amy. Thus, Amy is a mutual friend of ours.
