Mutiple Choice Option [in case he should forget/forgot]

He put the things in his bag in case he ……… them.

a)should forget (Answer Key)
b)forgot
c)forgets
d)wouldn’t forget

Hi,

In my opinion "b" (forgot) can be correct as well.
Do you agree with me?

So both are correct but the first one is more correct than the second one.

None of the answers sound satisfactory to me, but I would have chosen c).

This is a tricky one. Part of the problem is that "forgot" can be seen as 'past indicative', so it may sound as if he did forget them in the end. Let me use different examples:

In case you forgot, my name is...
In case you were wondering, the correct answer is...
