Must have been playing

Hello everyone,

Is it OK to use the following sentence to express certainty in the past?

- They must have been playing well.

Or must it be as follows?

- They must have played well.

The difference has nothing to do with the degree of certainty. The difference is simply the same as the difference between these two:

They were playing well.
They played well.
