Must

Hello,

"Must you work so hard? You both look rather tired."

I could not understand the usage of "must"?

An interrogative sentence starting with modal verb "must" seems difficult to understand.

Could any one here explain it?

Thanks.

I often feel a sense of frustration on the part of the speaker with this construction. [ Must you make so much noise? I'm trying to sleep. ]
