Mushed and mashed potatoes

Hello

Could you clarify the difference between 'mushed potatoes' and 'mashed potatoes'? I know what mashed potatoes are, but I have no idea what mushed potatoes could be.

Thanks a lot

'Mushed' seems to be a mispronunciation of mashed. It might be part of a regional dialect.

It could be just a play on the term, similar to my "smashed" potatoes.

Hi Kunsan,
'To mash something' means to crush something whereas, 'mush of something' means wet, soft, pulpy mass of something. In your case of potatoes, 'mashed potatoes' and 'potato mush' would mean the same.

If you check out these terms on Google, you'll find some indications that, at least for some people, 'mus

I haven't heard of "mushed" at all, in the UK. Only the word mashed.

I hadn't realized that it was that uncommon. My family with various approaches to cooking, often mushed their potatoes. Unlike mashed potatoes, which are prepared by mixing the freshly boiled potatoes with a little milk and margarine (used to be butter); mushed potatoes are 'created' on one's plate by squashing a boiled potato and adding one's own combination. There's really not 'mush' to it!
