Hi Yoong Liat,
Yes, this is a test, but I don't know the answers they give because I didn't do the test (my friend asked me these questions). However I think you can rely on my choices as Amy already verified them

Hi Yoong Liat,

I don't know about what you were taught, but I myself am not sure that sentence is correct in British English.

Let's see:

The football team have done well this season. All their players have trained very hard

=> 'have' is OK here; we can use both singular and plural verb for 'the football team' (in both British English and American English), d

Oh, sorry, I didn't notice the word 'Singapore'. Anyway are you Malaysian-originated or Chinese-originated? (if you don't mind my curiosity)

Hi Nessie

The football team have done well this season. All their players have trained very hard.

You're right. In a hurry, I missed this point. It should be "All the players ..."

I'm from Singapore, which was colonised by the British. I was taught by British teachers. Nowadays, the students are taught by Singaporeans.

Now that you know that I am a Sing

Actually, "their" would be possible there, in BrE, strange as it may seem.

Thanks, Mr Pedantic.

As pointed out by Nessie, it also appeared to me that 'their' was wrong. In fact, had I been more careful and less hasty in helping the member, I would have used 'the' as I said earlier.

However, thanks for letting me know that 'their', though illogical to Nessie and me, could be used.

I think Nessie will not question your answer.

Btw, I'm

It's a little difficult to search for examples; but among these googles from the BBC website http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=%22team+is+*%22+site%3Abbc.co.uk&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB where the antecedent of "their" is "team" + singular
