Much/many?

Dear friends, I am still confused with much or many for chips?

How much/many chips is/are there on the table?

Top answer

If you are speaking of potato chips (or French fries), they are not usually counted (unless you are starving and are equally sharing them). If the table itself is ‘damaged’ by being chipped, then you might be counting the number from a repairing point of view. ”

The food is counted in ‘orders’ or ‘containers’ – thus, “There are two orders of chips,” or “two packages of chips.”
