Much of the same vs much the same

Which ones are correct English between these sentences of each pair?

A1. "The second half followed much of the same pattern"

A2. "The second half followed much the same pattern"

B1. "The Earth's atmosphere has remained much of the same for the past 200 million years"

B2. "The Earth's atmosphere has remained much the same for the past 200 million years"

I think A1 and B2 are correct English.

A2 and B2 are correct (apart from missing full stops). A1 could have a meaning ascribed, but in practice seems like a mistake for A2. B1 is more glaringly wrong.
