1. So much of our lives turns out to be hooped in by imposed routine; and the excess organisation of our lives proves toxic, indeed.
2. ]We’re angry because so much of our lives are now beyond our control

Q) I wonder why the verb underlined is singular, and not plural considering its plural subject "much".
and in #2, the verb is are... inconsitent.. isn't it?
