Do you know the song "Mr Brightside" sung by the Killers? Anybody wants to explain me the meaning of the chorus?

The line "Open up my eager eyes 'cause I'm Mr. Brightside" feels really wry and ironic, so I don't think he's very optimistic about things in the end. It's more like he was saying to himself "OK, things got ****** up again, not much of a surprise though, gotta move on". That's what makes the song special for me, there's no denial, just sickening hope/hopelessness.
