I thought the movie story was about chemical weapon dealing and IMF agents averted the villain to do that.

Is the above sentence correct?

movie story is unnecessary. Just movie is enough. I don't think you mean averted .

I don't think you mean averted. Do you mean urged? Do you mean prevented from?
