Movement/motion

Hi. I have written this:

As she couldn't sleep, she got up. She entered the kitchen and poured herself a glass of milk, when suddenly she heard movement/motion downstairs.

My question is if it's possible to hear both movement and motion or only see it? And which one is the best fit for this context?
