Move Businesses from urban areas to rural areas

Accommodation and transport problems are increasing in many large cities. Businesses are encouraged to move to rural areas. Do advantages outweigh disadvantages?

It is true that in numerous big cities, there has been an accelerating trend of the issues of housing and transport. While moving businesses to rural areas can be beneficial to that problem, I would argue this policy has more disadvantages.

On the one hand, there is a common belief that businesses are encouraged to transfer from major cities to remote places because of two major reasons. Firstly, organizations’ relocation can decrease the population density in the central areas. As a result, the influx of workers traveling in rush hours which leads to traffic congestion would reduce. Secondly, since the movement of companies’ headquarters makes way for the construction of more residential areas, citizens’ living condition can be improved. For example, numerous poor individuals do not live in slum areas.

On the other hand, I would strongly endorse that those benefits are outweighed by drawbacks. The first supporting point for this view is that the government can pay a huge amount of money if they want companies to transfer to rural areas. For example, the authorities have to spend much money on strengthening facilities such as improving road surface quality or building more bridges and roads. This can impose a financial burden on the state budget. Moreover, since living condition such as education or health care in rural areas tends to be more backward than big cities, numerous employees are not willing to move to countrysides. This can lead a serious lack of skilled staffs for companies.

In conclusion, although there are some reasonable arguments in favor of the idea that businesses should move to remote places, it seems to me that policy has more drawbacks.
