Speech & Pronunciation

mouth, tongue position while speaking

Hi, I have one question about prounciation.
When I speak reasonably fast, I speak without moving my mouth, tongue very much. Of course I move them enough to make the sound correct but I wouldn't say that the positions are exactly correct; i.e. big jaw drop, tongue raised really high, etc. So, when speaking fast (informal conversation speed), do native speakers achieve the exact mouth, tongue position?
Thanks for reading.

Sure, the vowel quality changes in conversations. You see more reductions, more assimilations, etc. As a consequence, tongue and jaw settings change.

  • After all, it is either jaw or tongue or both that change the vowel quality.
  • Big jaw drop along with tongue drop: more opener vowels Tongue raised really high: more closer vowels Just these two observations do not tell much unless one picks out the same phrase in multiple contexts.
