"mountings of the mind" meaning?

In The Prelude by William Wordsworth there's this line:

"Trances of thought and mountings of the mind Come fast upon me: it is shaken off, That burthen of my own unnatural self,"

What are mountings of the mind and why is that plural - mountings - "ominous"? This passage is a bit ironic

Thanks in advance!
