Dear sir or madam,

Iam writing to apply for the master’s Degree in philosophy of international Health. I learned about this programme through web search and friends who are now studying at your university.

My aim is to work and contribute towards the international standard of care and management of diseases, Health promotion and research in the resource limited countries. Therefore I recognize the necessity to deepen my theoretical knowledge and analytical skills in Health care.

I hold a National diploma in clinical medicine and community Health. I also studied Human medicine at at xxx and graduated in December 2003 with a Bachelor of medicine and Bachelor of surgery (honors) Degree. The Degree is a five-year course that emphasizes on among others; the understanding of fundamental principles of modern medicine, community Health, palliative care and mental Health.

I found the course very interesting and exciting especially in areas of public Health and palliative care, because one of my career aspirations is to participate at a senior level in public sector service delivery.

To prepare myself for this objective, I participated very actively in HIV/AIDS research for four months at the center for disease control-xxx during electives in my medical school days. I completed internship in general medicine to gain additional practical experience. I also worked as a research assistant on a research to determine initial anti-TB drug resistance patterns at xxx. Currently I tremendously enjoy my work experience at xxx, an indigenous donor based but successful Non government organization, which has achieved a lot through collaboration with other institutions, in the integrated approach to counseling, support and care for people living with HIV/AIDS in xxxx.

In my experience so far, I have observed that majority of my clients who seek for services early in the care and management of HIV/AIDS are children and women. The men who actually are the family heads and financial controllers, attend in small numbers and many of whom present with late stage disease. Am particularly motivated by this observation because, in this era of scaling up of Antiretroviral Therapy in our enviroment, improved male involvement, equals improved adherence and voluntary counseling and testing which are key issues in this regard. I believe obtaining a Master’s Degree will provide the necessary background to enable me anticipate and contribute more effectively to not only the global fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, but also other potentially life threatening diseases in my country xxx.

Iam a very ambitious and determined person who really enjoys moving forward and in the right direction. Am not only searching for more theoretical background but also for interaction with experienced academics, professionals that are involved in this field and ambitious fellow students with similar interests and objectives.

Completion of this Master’s Degree in the university of xxx which has an excellent reputation in this programme, will be an excellent opportunity for my future career satisfaction. Furthermore, the courses it combines match perfectly my professional projects and conforms to my employer’s interests.
