Motorist

Does the term 'motorists' refer to all drivers, or just to people who are PAID to drive (such as bus drivers, or a rich person's driver)?

And is 'motorist' used in everyday language, or just in high-register?

Top answer

All car drivers are motorists (in everyday language). Privately employed car drivers are just drivers in the normal register and chauffeurs in high register.
