Motivational Letter - Review

Dear,

Please review my motivational letter below:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my interest in applying for admittance to the Erasmus+ Joint Master Degree program in Building Information Modelling. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Cardiff University (UK) in 2012 and Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Newcastle University (UK) in 2013. Currently, I am working as a lecturer at the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering in North South University (NSU), Bangladesh.

Alongside my teaching duties, I am actively involved in research. My first conference paper was published in “Renewable Energy and its Innovative Technologies - Proceedings of ICEMIT 2017, Volume 1, Springer - Singapore”. The goal of that research was the conversion of solid waste from the textile industry into recycled construction materials. At present, I am conducting research on construction safety and management. My primary focus is to find out the current safety condition and standard of safety practice in Bangladesh construction industry. I have already submitted a conference paper to “4th International Conference on Civil Engineering and Materials Science (ICCEMS ’19)’ organised by Thammasat University, Thailand with the current findings after completing surveys on 100 construction sites.

Before joining as a lecturer at North South University, I worked as a consultant engineer for four years on various projects in England, Bangladesh and Australia. Among all these, my most prominent work was the geotechnical development and construction planning for the “Dhaka Metro Rail” - a five billion dollar project. During these years, I obtained hands-on knowledge of engineering design, tendering, construction engineering, dealing with clients and contractors, project management and documentation process.

I have decided to apply for the Master’s in Building Information Modelling because I am sure it would actively enrich my skills and help me in my career. The reasons for applying this course lie in my most recent research. While doing the background study for my research, I came across the concepts of BIM and its application and significance on the construction industry. I find it fascinating that BIM is not only associated with design and pre-construction, but it benefits every phase of the project life-cycle, even after the project is completed. This is one of the main reasons for my decision to do a masters degree in Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Additionally, the use of BIM in the construction industry increases in recent years. Even the government regulatory bodies are also taking initiatives to raise the adoption of BIM in their respective countries. A developing country like Bangladesh where the construction industry is still old-fashioned but going through a significant series of large infrastructural developments; the use of modern technology such as BIM is imminent and, I believe if I have the skill sets of adopting new expertise then I can be a pioneer in the local construction industry and help my country to develop further. These motivate me to do an advanced master degree, and while looking for opportunities, I have found the Erasmus+ program on “BIM A+ - International Masters in Building Information Modelling”. I am enthusiastic to attend a master’s course on BIM to understand the concepts and its applications to more complex real-life situations. Besides, the idea of doing coursework in one institution and the dissertation in another is one thing that intrigued me most about this program. It’s like getting the best of everything out of two high-quality education institutes from doing one course. The excellent reputation of high academic standards, extremely distinguished faculty members, the research facilities and partnering with academic and professional organisations are also the factors which have encouraged me to apply for my master’s studies at this Erasmus+ program. In addition to that, I am also looking forward for the prestigious scholarship program and the opportunity to interact with students from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.

After completing the degree, I would like to pursue a career in the construction industry where I can combine the knowledge and skills acquired throughout this course. With the qualification I have after completing this program, I expect that I will have more opportunities to work on the various national and international infrastructure projects. Considering the impressive career prospect that an Erasmus+ advanced master degree can boast, I think this course is the best choice for me to start my new path.

I believe that my diverse and dynamic professional and academic background has endowed me with a strong capability to make a positive contribution as a master’s student for the Erasmus+ program of “European Master in Building Information Modelling”.

Yours Sincerely,

Md. Tousif Rahman
