To whom it may concern,

I am writing to express my interest in a PhD position at the xxxx University, with the focus on Consumer Behavior.

My name is xxxxx, an enthusiastic, motivated student in Msc Business Research with Marketing as focus area. I expect to graduate at the end of this academic year. With my academic interests, enthusiasm and perseverance, I believe that I am a suitable candidate for the PhD position.

In September 2016, I started with the master Marketing, after I graduated from Facility Management at xxxx School, xxx Netherlands. What I had experienced during my bachelor, become more clear during this master, namely that I am highly interested in research and research on consumer behavior in particular. The courses and the thesis have made me realize that the subjects consumer decision making and the impact of contextual cues on their decisions, fascinate me most. Following this interest, my Marketing thesis, supervised by xxxx, was on the topic of consumer behavior. More specifically, I studied whether the attraction effect can be used to nudge consumers towards healthy food options instead of the unhealthy alternatives.

When writing my thesis, I knew that I wanted to pursue my career in consumer behavior research. Therefore, when I was informed about the Business Research Master by xxxxx, I did not have to deliberate much. I decided to continue my study period at xxxx University with the Business Research Master to expand my knowledge and skills in the area of (consumer behavior) research.

I wish to continue with my academic career with a PhD in consumer behavior and I strongly believe that xxxx University and in particular the department of Marketing is the best place to continue my academic career. Further, I wish to work with xxxx as supervisor and xxxxx as promoter, as I am convinced that their expertise and corresponding research interests will contribute to the maximization of the PhD projects.

I am confident that I can complete the PhD period and contribute to academic understanding of consumer behavior and the influence of contextual cues with the research projects.
